Tipp-Ex is one of the most recognized names in the stationery world, primarily known for its correction products. The brand originated in Germany in 1959, founded by Otto Carls under the Tipp-Ex GmbH & Co. KG. The name itself reflects its function, derived from the German word 'tippen' (to type) and 'ex' (Latin for 'out' or 'away'). It initially became famous for correction paper used with typewriters before evolving into correction fluid and the tape dispensers seen today, such as the Mini Pocket Mouse.
In 1997, the brand was acquired by BIC, the French giant famous for lighters and pens. Under BIC's ownership, the brand expanded its global footprint significantly. While the brand has German roots, its manufacturing is now distributed across multiple locations worldwide to meet international demand, frequently utilizing BIC's extensive specialized production facilities in Europe and Asia. Today, Tipp-Ex remains the leading correction brand in Europe and a staple in offices and classrooms globally.
