Walker's Shortbread is an iconic Scottish brand that has remained a family-owned and operated institution for over 125 years. The company was founded by Joseph Walker in 1898 in the Speyside village of Torphins, before moving to Aberlour, where its headquarters remains today. Joseph's original ambition was to bake 'The world’s finest shortbread,' a mission that his descendants—now in the fourth generation—continue to uphold using his classic recipe of flour, pure creamery butter, sugar, and salt.
The 'Highlanders' variety is a specific type of thick, crunchy shortbread round that is hand-rolled in demerara sugar, distinguishing it from the brand's standard fingers or rounds. Every pack still carries the 'founder's guarantee,' a testament to the family's commitment to quality. Despite becoming one of Scotland's largest food exporters and employing over 1,500 people across multiple bakeries in the Speyside area (including Aberlour and Elgin), the brand has resisted acquisition by multinational conglomerates, maintaining its status as a private, family-run business based in the United Kingdom.
