Botucal Reserva Exclusiva Rum is a premium rum produced by Destilerías Unidas S.A. in Venezuela. The rum is made from molasses using the pot still process in copper stills and matures in small white oak barrels for twelve years. It has received numerous international awards, including a bronze medal at the International Rum Conference in Madrid in 2015. The brand was formerly known as Ron Diplomatico but changed its name in 2012 to avoid confusion with the Diplomat brand of brandy. The name 'Botucal' is derived from the word 'botuka,' meaning 'green hill' in the local language. The rum is known for its sweet and fruity character, with flavors of ripe tropical fruits, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and spices. The finish is long with notes of dark chocolate, orange, and caramel. The primary owner of Botucal is the Venezuelan company Destilerías Unidas S.A., which specializes in premium rum production and has received numerous international awards for its products.
