Ben & Jerry’s is a world-renowned ice cream brand that was originally founded in 1978 in Burlington, Vermont, USA. Its founders, Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, started with a single ice cream scoop shop in a renovated gas station. Since then, the brand has become iconic for its unique flavor combinations, large chunky inclusions, and commitment to social activism and fair trade ingredients.
While the brand maintains its headquarters in South Burlington, Vermont, its products are manufactured in multiple locations worldwide to serve global markets. Key production facilities are located in Waterbury and Saint Albans, Vermont, for the North American market, while the Hellendoorn factory in the Netherlands supplies much of the European and UK market.
In 2000, Ben & Jerry's was acquired by the multinational consumer goods giant Unilever. Despite the acquisition, the brand maintains a unique independent board of directors that oversees its social mission and product quality. Unilever, headquartered in the United Kingdom, continues to manage the brand’s global distribution and operations while preserving its original Vermont identity.
