Lucozade is one of the most iconic British beverage brands, originally formulated in 1927 by a Newcastle pharmacist as a source of energy for those recovering from illness. Initially marketed as 'Glucozade,' it was rebranded to Lucozade in 1929 and became a staple in British households as a medicinal tonic before transitioning into the sports and energy drink market.
Today, Lucozade Energy is primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom, specifically at the Coleford factory in Gloucestershire. This facility is one of the largest soft drink production sites in Europe, handling the majority of the brand's output for the UK and Irish markets.
While the brand was owned by the British pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for many decades, it was sold in 2013 to Suntory Holdings. This acquisition integrated the brand into the Suntory Beverage & Food limited division, a Japanese multinational. Under Suntory's ownership, the brand has focused on sustainability and formula innovations to meet modern dietary trends while maintaining its legacy as a premier energy drink.
