Marabou is a Swedish chocolate brand established in 1916 by the Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst, who had previously launched the same chocolate recipe in Norway under the name Freia. The brand was named after the marabou stork, which adorned the chocolate packaging. In 1919, production began in Sundbyberg, Sweden. Over time, Marabou expanded its product offerings and became a staple in Swedish confectionery. In 1990, Marabou was acquired by Mondelez International, a U.S.-based multinational company, which now owns the brand. Marabou chocolates are produced in multiple countries to meet global demand.
