Philadelphia is one of the world's most famous cream cheese brands. Despite its name, the brand was actually created in New York by William Lawrence in 1872 and was named 'Philadelphia' because the city was then known for high-quality dairy products.

Today, the Philadelphia brand has a split ownership structure. In the United States and Canada, it is owned and operated by Kraft Heinz. However, for the rest of the world (including the European market where this specific 'Light' variant is sold), the brand is owned by Mondelēz International. Manufacturing for the European market typically takes place in Germany and other local EU facilities to ensure freshness and regional distribution.
