Philadelphia, often colloquially known as Philly, is one of the world's most recognized cream cheese brands. Despite its name, the product was actually invented in New York in 1872 by William Lawrence. The name 'Philadelphia' was chosen as a marketing strategy because the city was known at the time for its high-quality dairy farms and premium food products.

Today, the brand's ownership is split geographically. In North America (USA and Canada), the brand is owned by Kraft Heinz. However, for the rest of the world, including Europe and the United Kingdom, the brand is owned and distributed by Mondelēz International. This division occurred following the 2012 corporate spin-off of Kraft Foods Inc. into two separate entities.

Manufacturing occurs in several locations globally to serve local markets. In Europe, a significant portion of production takes place in Germany and Spain, while Australian markets are served by local production facilities. The product shown—Philadelphia Light—is a popular low-fat alternative to the original recipe, maintaining the brand's signature creamy texture with reduced fat content.
