Remia Fritessaus is a quintessentially Dutch condiment, invented by the Remia company in 1967 as a leaner alternative to mayonnaise. The brand itself dates back to 1925 when founder Arie de Rooij began mixing margarines in his garage in Amersfoort, eventually expanding into the sauces that made the brand a household name in the Netherlands.
The product is primarily manufactured in Den Dolder, Netherlands, where Remia operates one of the most modern sauce factories in Europe. Ownership remains remarkably stable for a brand of this scale; Remia is an independent family-owned company, or 'familiebedrijf', managed by the De Rooij family. This independence allows them to maintain a strong focus on local Dutch culinary traditions while exporting to over 100 countries globally.
