Filippo Berio is an iconic olive oil brand with a history dating back to 1867, founded by its namesake in Lucca, Tuscany. While the brand remains synonymous with Italian tradition and continues to have its primary manufacturing and bottling facilities in Massarosa (near Lucca), Italy, the olive oils themselves are often sourced from a variety of Mediterranean countries including Italy, Spain, Greece, and Tunisia to maintain consistent flavor profiles.
In terms of ownership, the brand's trajectory moved from a family-run enterprise to being part of the Salov Group (Società per Azioni Lucchese Olii e Vini) in 1919. In 2014, the Chinese conglomerate Bright Food acquired a majority stake in Salov. As of 2026, the ultimate ownership rests with Bright Food, which is a state-owned enterprise under the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Despite this change in corporate ownership, the brand maintains its headquarters in Italy and continues to market itself as a steward of Italian culinary heritage.
