It is famously known as the oldest soft drink brand in Europe, originally launched under the name 'Bilz-Brause' before being renamed to Sinalco (derived from the Latin 'sine alcohole') in 1905. The brand is recognized globally by its iconic red circle logo, which was introduced in 1937.

Today, the brand is owned by the Hövelmann family (Hövelmann Beteiligungs GmbH), a major German beverage wholesaler and mineral water producer based in Duisburg. While the brand is managed from Germany, it is produced in over 40 countries worldwide through a franchise system, though domestic German production remains central to its heritage.
