Colman's is one of Britain's most iconic heritage brands, synonymous with its distinctive Original English Mustard. Founded in 1814 by Jeremiah Colman in Norwich, Norfolk, the brand established a reputation for its fiery heat and bright yellow packaging. For over two centuries, the production was centered at Carrow Works in Norwich, a factory that became a cornerstone of the local economy.
In recent years, the manufacturing landscape for Colman's has evolved. Following the closure of the historic Carrow Works site by Unilever, production of the mustard powder and processing of mustard seeds moved to local farming cooperatives in the Norfolk area, specifically through a partnership with Norfolk Mustard Growers. However, the final packaging and liquid mustard production largely shifted to Unilever's facility in Burton-on-Trent. Despite these logistical changes, the product maintains its deep association with its English origins.
Since 1995, Colman's has been part of the Unilever portfolio. Unilever is a global consumer goods giant headquartered in London. As the ultimate owner, Unilever manages the brand's international distribution while preserving its "Of Norwich" heritage on the labelling to honor its historical roots.
