Marabou Dots Mjölkchoklad is a popular Swedish confectionery product consisting of bite-sized milk chocolate buttons. The Marabou brand was established in Sweden in 1916 by Norwegian chocolatier Johan Throne Holst. Interestingly, the brand was named after the marabou stork because its original name, 'Freia' (from Holst’s successful Norwegian chocolate company), was already trademarked in Sweden at the time.

While production originally began in Sundbyberg, outside Stockholm, it moved to a modern facility in Upplands Väsby in the 1970s, where the majority of Marabou chocolate is still manufactured today. Over the decades, the brand's ownership shifted through corporate mergers; it was acquired by Kraft Foods in 1993, which later became Mondelēz International. Today, Marabou remains an iconic Swedish brand, even holding a Royal Warrant of Appointment from the King of Sweden, while operating under the global portfolio of Mondelēz International.
