Toblerone is a world-renowned Swiss chocolate brand, famous for its distinctive triangular shape and honey and almond nougat. The brand was created by Theodor Tobler in Bern, Switzerland, in 1908. The unique shape of the peaks is often associated with the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps, which is featured on the packaging.
For over a century, the product was exclusively manufactured in Bern. However, starting in late 2022 and 2023, the manufacturing moved to a more international model. While the flagship products continue to be made in Switzerland, some production has shifted to Bratislava, Slovakia, to meet global demand. This shift necessitated a change in branding, as "Swiss Made" legal requirements necessitate production entirely within Switzerland.
The brand is currently owned by Mondelez International, an American multinational confectionery and food company. Mondelez acquired the brand through its previous iteration as Kraft Foods, which had purchased the Tobler company in 1990. Today, it remains one of the most recognizable premium chocolate brands worldwide.
