Schweppes is one of the world's oldest and most iconic beverage brands, famously known for inventing the carbonated soft drink process. Originally founded in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1783 by Jacob Schweppe, the company moved to London in 1792 to expand its operations. Schweppes Tonic Water was specifically created in the 1870s, pioneering the category of carbonated quinine drinks used to prevent malaria in tropical climates.
Today, the ownership and manufacturing of Schweppes are highly fragmented globally due to various historical acquisitions. In the United Kingdom and many parts of Europe, the brand is owned by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners. In the United States and Canada, it is owned by Keurig Dr Pepper. In other regions like Australia and parts of Asia, Asahi Group Holdings maintains ownership. Consequently, the product is manufactured in numerous localized bottling plants across the globe, adhering to different regional licensing agreements.
