Nutella Hazelnut Cocoa Spread

Nutella is a globally recognized hazelnut cocoa spread that originated in Alba, Italy. The product's history traces back to WWII-era scarcity of cocoa, which led pastry chef Pietro Ferrero to create Pasta Gianduja, a solid block of hazelnuts and sugar with a small amount of cocoa. Over time, this was transformed into a spreadable version called Supercrema, which was eventually refined and rebranded as Nutella by Michele Ferrero in 1964.

Today, Nutella is manufactured in approximately 11 facilities worldwide to serve different regional markets. Major production sites are located in Alba and Sant' Angelo dei Lombardi (Italy), Villers-Écalles (France), Stadtallendorf (Germany), Belsk (Poland), Manisa (Turkey), Brantford (Canada), Lithgow (Australia), and various sites across Brazil, Mexico, and recently the United States for specialized products.

The brand remains a core part of the Ferrero Group, which is headquartered in Luxembourg and remains under the private ownership of the Ferrero family. As of 2026, the group continues to expand its global footprint, recently introducing first-flavor innovations like Nutella Peanut to adapt to evolving consumer tastes while maintaining the heritage of its original recipe.
