Tempo is a legendary brand of paper tissues that has become a generic trademark for the product in many European countries, particularly Germany and Austria. Founded in 1929 by the Vereinigte Papierwerke AG in Nuremberg, Germany, the brand revolutionized the market by introducing the first disposable paper handkerchief.

Today, the brand is owned by Essity, a global hygiene and health company based in Sweden. Essity was spun off from the Swedish pulp and paper manufacturer SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget) in 2017. Manufacturing takes place in several locations across Europe to meet regional demand, including facilities in Germany and neighboring countries. The brand remains a market leader, known for the high strength and softness of its multi-ply tissues.
