Tempo is one of the most iconic and recognized brands of pocket tissues, particularly in European markets such as Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. The brand was founded in 1929 by the Vereinigte Papierwerke AG in Nuremberg, Germany, introducing the first disposable paper handkerchief. Its name has since become a generic trademark for pocket tissues in several countries.

Manufacturing primarily takes place in Europe, with significant production facilities located in Germany (such as Neuss and Mannheim) and other regional sites to serve the continental market. Throughout its history, the brand has changed hands multiple times; it was acquired by SCA (Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget) in 2007, and later became part of Essity following the spin-off of SCA's hygiene and health business in 2017. Essity continues to own and manage the brand globally, focusing on hygiene, health, and sustainable paper production.
