McVitie's is one of the most iconic biscuit brands in the world, renowned for inventing the original Digestive biscuit in 1892. The brand traces its roots back to 1830 in Edinburgh, Scotland, where Robert McVitie opened his first bakery. Over the decades, the company grew into a household name, synonymous with British tea culture and high-quality baked goods like Jaffa Cakes and Hobnobs.
Today, while McVitie's maintains its strong British heritage and primary manufacturing base in the United Kingdom—specifically at large sites in London, Manchester, and Glasgow—it has a significant global presence. Its products are distributed across Europe, North America, and Asia, with some regional production occurring to meet international demand.
In terms of ownership, McVitie's passed through various corporate hands before becoming part of pladis, a global confectionery company. pladis was established in 2016 by the Turkish conglomerate Yıldız Holding, which consolidated several legendary brands including Godiva and Ulker. As of 2024 and beyond, McVitie's continues to be managed under the pladis umbrella, benefiting from a massive global supply chain while retaining its headquarters and core production in the UK.
