The Président brand was created in 1968 by Michel Besnier in Laval, Mayenne, France, building upon the family dairy company founded by his father, André Besnier, in 1933. Originally recognized for its Camembert cheese, the brand later expanded worldwide to cover a wide variety of butter, cheese, and cream products.

Today, the brand belongs to Lactalis (Groupe Lactalis), one of the world's largest multinational dairy corporations, which remains privately held and headquartered in Laval, France. In the Baltic region, including Latvia, Président dairy products are distributed via Lactalis's regional subsidiaries and local food distribution networks, with specialized aerosol cream products commonly manufactured in Western Europe (such as Belgium or France).
