The Meadow Gold brand traces its roots back to 1894 in Lincoln, Nebraska, where it originated with the Beatrice Creamery Company. In 1901, Meadow Gold was introduced as a distinctive trademark for butter, eventually expanding into a full portfolio of milk, ice cream, canned evaporated milk, and other dairy items across the United States.

Throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Meadow Gold changed corporate hands multiple times, eventually becoming part of Dean Foods. Following Dean Foods' Chapter 11 bankruptcy restructuring in 2020, major assets including the Meadow Gold brand were acquired by Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), the nation's largest dairy cooperative owned by thousands of family farmers across the country. Meadow Gold evaporated milk continues to be manufactured primarily within the United States.
