Formed in 2018, this strategic alliance granted Nestlé the perpetual global rights to market, package, and distribute Starbucks Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and Foodservice coffee products outside of Starbucks company-operated coffee shops.

The Starbucks brand originated in 1971 at Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington, USA. While Starbucks Corporation retains ultimate ownership of the Starbucks trademark and continues to source and roast coffee for its retail stores, retail capsules and pods—including Starbucks by Nespresso and Starbucks K-Cup pods found in Canadian supermarkets—are manufactured and distributed under the direction of Nestlé.

Depending on the specific pod format (such as K-Cup pods or Nespresso-compatible aluminum capsules), manufacturing takes place across multiple facilities worldwide, primarily in the United States and Switzerland (for Nespresso formats), and distributed across Canada through Nestlé Canada Inc.
