Rain-X Rain Repellent

Rain-X is a globally recognized automotive care brand famous for its hydrophobic glass water repellents, windshield washer fluids, and wiper blades. The core product technology was originally developed in the early 1970s in the United States by Howard Ohlhausen and commercialized through Unelko Corporation.

Over the decades, the brand was acquired by various chemical and automotive corporations, including Quaker State, Pennzoil-Quaker State, and Shell. In 2011, Illinois Tool Works Inc. (ITW), a Fortune 200 global multi-industrial manufacturer based in Glenview, Illinois, acquired the Rain-X business along with other car care brands (such as Black Magic and Gumout) from Shell.

Today, Rain-X products sold in Germany and across Europe are distributed through ITW's specialized automotive aftermarket divisions (such as ITW Global Brands / ITW Additives & Car Care). While the flagship chemical treatments are primarily blended and bottled in the United States or regional European manufacturing facilities, related accessories such as wiper blades are produced in global supply chains spanning North America, Europe, and Asia.
