Filson is an iconic American heritage brand established in 1897 by Clinton C. Filson in Seattle, Washington. Originally founded as C.C. Filson's Pioneer Alaska Clothing and Blanket Manufacturers, the company gained prominence by outfitting prospectors during the Klondike Gold Rush with rugged, life-saving gear. Over the decades, it evolved into a premier outfitter for loggers, hunters, and outdoor enthusiasts, famous for its Mackinaw Wool and heavy-duty Tin Cloth.

Historically, Filson manufactured nearly all of its products in its own Seattle facilities. However, as the brand expanded globally under new ownership, it adopted a hybrid manufacturing model. While many of its core heritage items—including signature luggage, wool coats, and waxed canvas jackets—continue to be crafted in the United States at its Seattle factory or through domestic partners, a significant portion of its broader collection (such as certain shirts, accessories, and tech-focused items) is now manufactured internationally in countries like Vietnam, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and China.

In 2012, Filson was acquired by Bedrock Manufacturing Co., a Dallas-based private equity and brand management firm founded by Tom Kartsotis (the founder of Fossil Group). Under Bedrock’s leadership, Filson has been positioned alongside other American craftsmanship-focused brands like Shinola, emphasizing a blend of traditional quality and modern retail expansion.
