Musholm is a leading Danish aquaculture brand specializing in high-quality trout products since its founding in 1979. The company operates a fully integrated production cycle, where fish are hatched and raised in freshwater land-based farms in Jutland before being moved to sea farms in the Great Belt for maturation. This specific product, hot-smoked trout with pepper, is produced in Denmark, where the brand maintains its own processing plant and head office in Reersø.

While the brand has deep Danish roots and continues to operate primarily in Denmark, it underwent a change in ownership in 2019. It is now fully owned by Okamura Foods Co., Ltd., a Japanese seafood conglomerate. This partnership has allowed Musholm to export its sustainable aquaculture technology to Japan while continuing to supply European markets with ASC-certified and organic trout products. The 'ASC' label visible on the packaging signifies that the fish comes from responsibly managed farms that minimize environmental impact.
