Dole is a globally recognized brand with a rich history rooted in the agricultural development of Hawaii. The brand's origins date back to 1851 with the founding of Castle & Cooke by Samuel Castle and Amos Cooke, and later the establishment of the Hawaiian Pineapple Company by James Dole in 1901. Over the decades, these entities merged and evolved into the modern Dole Food Company.

Today, the ownership structure of the Dole brand is split following a major strategic reorganization in 2013. The fresh produce and vegetable operations are primarily overseen by Dole plc, which was formed through the 2021 merger between Dole Food Company and the Irish company Total Produce. This entity is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. Conversely, the worldwide packaged foods and Asia fresh produce businesses were sold to ITOCHU Corporation, a Japanese conglomerate.

Manufacturing and sourcing for Dole products occur in many countries to support its vast global footprint. Major production hubs include the Philippines, Thailand, and various regions across Latin America and North America, ensuring a year-round supply of fresh and packaged fruit products.
