Got Bag is a pioneer in sustainable fashion, recognized for creating the world's first backpacks made from recycled ocean plastic. The brand was founded in 2016 by Benjamin Mandos and Roman Ruster in Mainz, Germany, following Mandos's firsthand experiences with the devastating effects of plastic pollution in Southeast Asia.

The company operates a unique circular economy model centered in Indonesia. They partner with local fishermen and a dedicated cleanup program to collect 'Ocean Impact Plastic' from coastal areas and the sea. While the raw materials are sourced and initially processed in Indonesia (cleaned and sorted), the actual manufacturing of the backpacks primarily takes place in Quanzhou, China, due to the specialized technical expertise required for high-quality recycled textile production. Some production also occurs in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Today, Got Bag remains a privately held company headquartered in Mainz, Germany, with a significant North American subsidiary based in Portland/Beaverton, Oregon. The brand continues to focus on its mission of environmental stewardship and ocean conservation, expanding its product line beyond the iconic roll-top backpack to include a wide range of travel bags and accessories.
