The brand was originally established in 1965 in Larisa as an agricultural cooperative. In 2000, it was acquired by the Sarantis family, who moved the administrative and industrial operations to Trikala and transformed the company into a major international player in the dairy industry.

The product is primarily produced in Greece, utilizing milk collected from local Greek farms. Hellenic Dairies operates several processing facilities in Greece (Trikala, Larissa, and Rodopi), as well as factories in Romania and Bulgaria, though the Olympos brand remains deeply rooted in its Greek heritage. As of 2026, the company continues to be owned and managed by the Sarantis family, with the third generation holding key leadership roles. The group has expanded its portfolio beyond dairy to include juices, refreshments, and plant-based products, exporting to over 45 countries worldwide.
