Schierker Feuerstein herbal liqueur

Schierker Feuerstein is a traditional German herbal liqueur (Kräuter-Halb-Bitter) with a rich history rooted in the Harz Mountains. It was developed in 1908 by pharmacist Willy Drube at his pharmacy, 'Zum Roten Fingerhut,' in the village of Schierke. The name and the iconic imagery on the packaging are inspired by the 'Feuersteinklippen,' a striking reddish granite rock formation located near the village. The brand was officially trademarked in 1924.

Throughout the 20th century, the brand mirrored the history of Germany itself. After World War II and the division of the country, production split: one branch operated in West Germany (Bad Lauterberg), while the original site in Schierke (East Germany) was eventually nationalized as a state-owned enterprise (VEB). Following German reunification in 1990, the family successfully reunited both operations under the common company Schierker Feuerstein GmbH & Co. KG.

Today, the manufacturing process remains true to its regional roots. The critical maceration phase, where the secret blend of herbs is processed, still takes place at the ancestral home in Schierke, while modern bottling and distribution are handled at the facility in Bad Lauterberg. The company remains an independent, family-run business, now managed by the fourth and fifth generations of the Drube family.
