SEAT, short for Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo, is Spain's leading automotive manufacturer. The brand was originally created in 1950 by the Spanish state-owned industrial holding company, Instituto Nacional de Industria (INI). Throughout its history, SEAT developed a close relationship with Fiat before transitioning into a partnership with the Volkswagen Group in the early 1980s.

The specific model pictured, the SEAT Alhambra (a luxury MPV similar to the Volkswagen Touran mentioned in the text), was primarily manufactured at the AutoEuropa plant in Palmela, Portugal. This factory is an assembly facility shared between several Volkswagen Group brands. Although SEAT remains a proud reflection of Spanish engineering and design, it has been fully owned by the German automotive giant Volkswagen AG since 1990.

As of 2024 and beyond, SEAT continues to operate as a core subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. The brand focus has recently shifted alongside its high-performance sibling, CUPRA, but SEAT remains headquartered in Martorell, Spain, with ultimate corporate control and strategy driven from Wolfsburg, Germany.
