Akashi Blended Whisky

Akashi Blended Whisky is a prominent spirit produced by the Eigashima Shuzo Company, which operates the White Oak Distillery. Located in Akashi City, Hyogo Prefecture, the distillery is uniquely situated near the Seto Inland Sea, an environment that significantly influences the aging process of the whisky due to the coastal climate and significant temperature fluctuations.

While Eigashima Shuzo has been brewing sake and shochu since 1888, it holds the distinction of being the first Japanese distillery to obtain a whisky-making license in 1919. Despite this early start, dedicated whisky production at the current White Oak facility didn't begin until 1984. The Akashi brand itself was launched in 2007 and has since become a symbol of artisanal Japanese craftsmanship.

The brand remains under the independent ownership of Eigashima Shuzo, a family-run business now led by its ninth generation. The whisky is often produced in small batches, reflecting a 'micro-distillery' approach where the same small team of experts manages the production of various traditional Japanese spirits throughout the year.
