Conimex Asian food products

Conimex is a prominent Dutch brand specializing in Asian cuisine, particularly Indonesian-inspired products. Founded in 1932 in Baarn, Netherlands, the brand was established to import spices and ingredients from the Dutch East Indies (modern-day Indonesia) to satisfy the growing demand for authentic Eastern flavors among the Dutch population. Over the decades, it has become a household staple in the Netherlands, recognized for its iconic yellow packaging and a vast portfolio that includes prawn crackers (kroepoek), spice pastes (boemboes), soy sauces (ketjap), and sambal.

Historically, the brand has passed through several major corporate hands, including Reckitt & Colman and Bestfoods. It was acquired by the British multinational Unilever in 2000. However, as part of a strategic portfolio simplification, Unilever sold Conimex to the Finnish food and beverage company Paulig Group. This acquisition was finalized in April 2025, placing the brand under the ownership of a company known for its expertise in world foods and spices.

Manufacturing for Conimex remains centered in Europe to serve its primary markets in the Netherlands and Belgium. While many core products like prawn crackers are produced locally in the Netherlands to minimize transport emissions, the parent company, Paulig, also utilizes its recent acquisition of Panesar Foods in the United Kingdom to enhance production capabilities for sauces and condiments across its brand portfolio.
