The brand's history is deeply intertwined with the Avène Thermal Spring in the south of France, which was discovered to have therapeutic properties as early as 1736. The spring water became so famous for its soothing and anti-irritating benefits that it was even exported to America in 1871 to treat burn victims of the Great Chicago Fire.

In 1975, the brand entered a new era when it was acquired by Pierre Fabre Laboratories. Following years of extensive pharmacological and clinical research, the commercial dermo-cosmetic brand 'Eau Thermale Avène' was officially launched in 1990. Today, the brand is a major player in the global pharmacy and skincare market, reaching over a billion euros in turnover. Its product line ranges from the iconic Thermal Spring Water Spray to specialized treatments for eczema, acne, and sun protection.

Manufacturing remains highly localized to preserve the integrity of the core ingredient. The products are developed in Toulouse and manufactured at a dedicated production plant in the village of Avène, Hérault. This facility is located directly at the site of the thermal spring to ensure that the water's unique biological and mineral properties remain intact from the source to the final product packaging.
