Barilla Bolognese sauce

Barilla is one of the most iconic names in Italian cuisine, with a history dating back to 1877 when Pietro Barilla Sr. opened a small bakery and pasta shop in Parma, Italy. Over the generations, the family-run business expanded into a global powerhouse, becoming the world's leading pasta producer. While the company briefly lost family control in the 1970s to the American chemical firm W. R. Grace, Pietro Barilla reacquired the business in 1979, ensuring it remained an Italian family-owned enterprise.

Today, the Barilla Group remains privately held and is managed by the fourth generation of the family. The Bolognese sauce shown in the image is part of their extensive range of ready-made sauces. While Barilla operates production facilities worldwide, including major plants in the United States and Greece, its primary sauce production is centered in Italy. Specifically, the high-tech Rubbiano plant near Parma is dedicated to manufacturing their sauce lines, utilizing 100% Italian tomatoes and traditional recipes to maintain authentic Mediterranean flavors.
