McVitie's is an iconic British snack food brand with a history dating back to 1830. Originally founded by Robert McVitie in Edinburgh, Scotland, the brand became a household name following the invention of the 'Digestive' biscuit in 1892 by Alexander Grant. For nearly two centuries, the brand was synonymous with Scottish baking; however, in 2022, the company closed its last factory in Scotland, shifting its primary UK production to major facilities in England, including Harlesden (London), Stockport, and Carlisle.

Today, McVitie's is part of a global snacking empire. After decades under the ownership of United Biscuits, the brand was acquired by the Turkish conglomerate Yildiz Holding in 2014. In 2016, Yildiz Holding consolidated its global confectionery businesses—including United Biscuits, Ulker, and Godiva Chocolatier—into a new global entity called Pladis. Headquartered in London, Pladis continues to manage the McVitie's brand, investing heavily in automated production across its UK factories to meet international demand while maintaining the brand's traditional British heritage.
