Siggi's Icelandic-style skyr

Siggi's is a prominent brand of Icelandic-style skyr, a traditional strained yogurt characterized by its thick texture, high protein content, and significantly lower sugar levels compared to typical American yogurts. The brand was founded in 2004 by Siggi Hilmarsson, an Icelandic expat living in New York who missed the traditional foods of his childhood. Dissatisfied with the overly sweet and artificial options in local grocery stores, he began making small batches in his kitchen using a 1913 recipe sent by his mother.

What started as a local project quickly scaled from Manhattan farmer's markets to nationwide retail success. In 2018, the brand was acquired by the French dairy giant Lactalis (Groupe Lactalis), the world's largest dairy company. Despite the acquisition, Siggi's continues to operate as a standalone company under its original spirit of simplicity.

Manufacturing for Siggi's products is localized to the markets they serve to ensure freshness and support local agriculture. In the United States, the products are primarily manufactured in Upstate New York and Wisconsin using milk from family farms. In Canada, the products are made with 100% Canadian milk at local production facilities, and similar localized production models exist in other international markets where the brand is sold.
