The brand traces its roots back to 1989 when Tom Joule started selling country-inspired clothing at equestrian and outdoor events in Great Britain. This heritage is deeply reflected in their designs, which often feature hand-drawn prints and classic British country themes.

While the brand's design and conceptual work remain centered in the United Kingdom, manufacturing is outsourced globally. Production primarily takes place in countries such as China, India, Bangladesh, and Turkey to leverage specialized textile manufacturing capabilities. In late 2022, following financial challenges, the brand was acquired to ensure its long-term stability and growth under new retail leadership.

Today, Joules is owned by the retail giant Next plc in partnership with Tom Joule. This acquisition has provided the brand with the robust infrastructure of one of the UK’s largest retailers while maintaining the creative vision and heritage that originally made the brand a staple of British country fashion.
