The brand's journey began in 1969 in South Hadley, Massachusetts, when Mike Kittredge created his first candle from melted crayons as a gift for his mother.

While it remains a quintessentially American brand with major manufacturing facilities in Massachusetts, it has expanded its production footprint to address global demand, including facilities in Europe (specifically Czech Republic) to serve the international market.

Following several changes in ownership, including a period under private equity, Yankee Candle was acquired by Jarden Corporation in 2013. Jarden then merged with Newell Rubbermaid in 2016 to form the current parent company, Newell Brands. Today, Yankee Candle operates as a key brand within Newell's Home Fragrance division, continuing its legacy of high-quality home scents while benefiting from the global distribution network of a major consumer goods conglomerate.
