Sumol is a Portuguese brand of fruit juice drinks, known for its lightly carbonated beverages made from pasteurized fruit juice with pulp, free from colorants and preservatives. The brand was established in 1954 by Refrigor, Lda., a company founded in 1945 by a group of friends in Algés, Portugal. The name 'Sumol' is a combination of the Portuguese words 'sumo' (juice) and 'sol' (sun), reflecting the brand's sunny and refreshing image. Over the years, Sumol expanded its product line to include various flavors such as Orange, Pineapple, Passion Fruit, and Mango, catering to diverse consumer preferences. In 2009, Refrigor merged with Compal, another prominent Portuguese beverage company, to form Sumol+Compal S.A., creating one of the largest food and beverage groups in Portugal. As of December 31, 2023, Refrigor, S.A. held the majority of voting rights in Sumol+Compal S.A. The company operates internationally, exporting its products to over 50 countries, and has manufacturing facilities in Portugal and Mozambique. Sumol+Compal S.A. is headquartered in Carnaxide, Portugal, and continues to innovate in the non-alcoholic beverage market, offering a range of products that blend natural ingredients with modern production techniques.
