Listerine mouthwash

Listerine is one of the world's most recognizable brands of antiseptic mouthwash. It was first formulated in 1879 by Dr. Joseph Lawrence and Jordan Wheat Lambert in St. Louis, Missouri. Named after Joseph Lister, a pioneer in antiseptic surgery, the product was originally marketed as a general germicide and surgical antiseptic before being promoted to dentists and eventually as a consumer mouthwash in the early 20th century.

Today, Listerine is manufactured in numerous facilities globally to meet regional demands, with major production sites in the United States, Italy, and Thailand. The brand's journey through corporate history is significant; it was the flagship product of the Lambert Pharmacal Company, which later merged to become Warner-Lambert. The brand was acquired by Pfizer in 2000, and subsequently by Johnson & Johnson in 2006.

As of 2024, the brand is owned and managed by Kenvue, the standalone consumer health company that spun off from Johnson & Johnson. Kenvue continues to innovate the Listerine line, maintaining its status as a market leader in oral health by distributing it through various local subsidiaries and authorized distributors globally.
