Frosch is a globally recognized pioneer in ecological cleaning, established in 1986 by the family-owned German company Werner & Mertz GmbH. Originally founded in 1867 as a wax goods factory in Mainz, the parent company leveraged its century-long expertise to launch Frosch as a sustainable alternative to conventional chemical cleaners. The brand is famous for being the first to introduce phosphate-free cleaners to the German retail market.

Today, Frosch products are primarily manufactured at the company's state-of-the-art facilities in Mainz, Germany, and Hallein, Austria. These sites are certified under the European Union's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), ensuring a holistic approach to sustainable production. The brand utilizes plant-based surfactants and was a forerunner in using 100% recycled plastic (Recyclat) for its packaging. Ownership remains with Werner & Mertz, currently led by the fifth generation of the founding family, maintaining its status as an independent, heritage-rich German enterprise.
