The Cora hypermarket banner itself was launched in 1974.

Historically, the brand has been managed by the Louis Delhaize Group across several European markets including Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Romania. However, the ownership landscape has shifted significantly in recent years. In July 2023, the French retail giant Carrefour reached an agreement to acquire the Cora and Match banners in France from the Louis Delhaize Group. This acquisition was finalized in July 2024, leading to a phased rebranding of Cora stores in France to the Carrefour banner throughout late 2024. Similarly, Cora's operations in Romania were integrated into Carrefour in late 2023.

As of 2026, while the Cora brand remains active in some markets like Belgium, it is undergoing further restructuring or closure under the Louis Delhaize Group's remaining portfolio. The manufacturing of these store-brand chips is typically outsourced to large European snack manufacturers, often based in Belgium or France, to supply their regional distribution centers.
