It was officially launched in 2006 as a heart-healthy, oat-focused alternative to the brand's flagship wheat biscuits. The product is primarily manufactured at the company's historic mills in Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire, England, which have been the hub of their production since the 1930s.

The brand's history is deeply rooted in British manufacturing, though it was founded by Bennison Osborne and Malcolm MacFarlane who initially established the company as the British and African Cereal Co Ltd in 1932. Over the decades, ownership transitioned from a family-run business to various international private equity firms and later to the Chinese state-owned Bright Food. In 2017, the company was acquired by the American consumer packaged goods giant Post Holdings, which remains the ultimate owner today.
