Bollnäsfil filmjölk

Bollnäsfil is a traditional Swedish fermented milk product (filmjölk) with a history dating back to the 1950s. It was originally created by a dairy master at Bollnäs Mejeri in the province of Hälsingland. The product is distinguished from standard filmjölk by its unique production process where approximately 7% of the liquid is removed, resulting in a creamier and milder consistency. For decades, it was a local specialty primarily available in the Hälsingland region, often being 'smuggled' by tourists to other parts of Sweden due to regional dairy boundaries.

Today, Bollnäsfil is produced at Grådö Mejeri in Dalarna using Swedish milk and the original 1950s recipe. The brand was acquired in 2017 by Kavli Sverige from Gefleortens mejeriförening. Since then, its distribution has expanded across Sweden. The brand is currently owned by the Kavli Group, a unique food group owned by a charitable foundation (Kavlifonden) that distributes its profits to humanitarian causes and research.
