Originally established under the Scott Paper Company, the brand's roots trace back to Philadelphia, USA, in 1879. The Scott brothers were pioneers in the paper industry, credited with being the first to market toilet paper on a roll. Over the decades, the company expanded its product lines and international reach. In 1995, the Scott Paper Company was acquired by the American multinational Kimberly-Clark Corporation, which remains the ultimate owner today.

Manufacturing for Scottex products is decentralized to serve local markets efficiently. For the European market, and specifically the napkins shown in the image (labeled "Tovaglioli" and "Allegria in tavola"), production is centered in Italy.
