The brand name itself is a family acronym, derived from the first names of the founders and their family members (Dragoș, Denise, his mother-in-law, and Adrian). Over three decades, it evolved from a small 16-square-meter shop into a national powerhouse, surpassing international competitors to become the market leader in the Romanian DIY sector.

While Dedeman is primarily a retail chain rather than a single manufactured product, the goods sold within its stores follow a diverse sourcing strategy. Approximately 85% of the products are sourced from Romanian national manufacturers, supporting the local economy. The remaining 15% consists of imports from various countries including France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Germany, and China. This blend ensures a comprehensive inventory ranging from construction materials and tools to furniture and garden supplies.

The company remains a cornerstone of Romanian entrepreneurship, being 100% owned by the Pavăl brothers through their investment vehicle, Pavăl Holding. As of 2026, Dedeman continues to operate as the largest privately-owned Romanian company, maintaining its headquarters in Bacău and serving as a major employer and corporate sponsor for national sports and community initiatives.
