The brand was created in Sweden to explore more experimental and craft-style brewing techniques while leveraging the industrial infrastructure of its parent company.

All Pistonhead products are primarily brewed in Sweden at Spendrups' facilities. The ultimate owner is Spendrups Bryggeri AB, a family-owned company that is one of Sweden's oldest and largest breweries, headquartered in Vårby outside Stockholm. They have successfully positioned Pistonhead as an international lifestyle brand within the craft beer segment.
