OSRAM is one of the world's most recognized lighting brands, with a history dating back to 1906 in Germany. The brand's name is derived from the elements Osmium and Wolfram (tungsten in German), which were critical materials for early filament technology. For over a century, OSRAM operated as a cornerstone of German industrial engineering, initially as part of Siemens.
In recent years, the brand has undergone significant ownership changes. The general lighting business (LEDs and traditional lamps) was spun off in 2016 as Ledvance, while the high-tech semiconductor and sensor business remained under the OSRAM name. Following a high-profile acquisition in 2020, the brand is now part of the ams OSRAM Group, headquartered in Austria. Manufacturing for these light bulbs is distributed globally across facilities in Europe and Asia to meet international demand.
