Jozo salt with iodine

JOZO is one of the most iconic and established salt brands in Europe, particularly in the Benelux and Scandinavian regions. Its history dates back to 1918 with the founding of Royal Dutch Salt Industries (KNZ) in Boekelo, Netherlands. The brand name 'JOZO' is a direct shortening of the Dutch term 'Jodium Zout' (Iodized Salt), reflecting its original purpose of combating iodine deficiency when mass production began in 1929.

Historically, the product was part of the AkzoNobel portfolio (later Nouryon/Nobian). However, in 2021, the salt specialty business including JOZO was acquired by the French company Groupe Salins (Salins Group). The salt itself is primarily sourced from deep underground vacuum salt mines located in Hengelo, Netherlands, and Mariager, Denmark, which formed millions of years ago when ancient seas evaporated.
