Ecover is a pioneering manufacturer of ecological cleaning products. Founded in 1979 by Frans Bogaerts, the brand was created with a mission to develop phosphate-free cleaning solutions that minimize environmental impact. Its first product was a phosphate-free washing powder, which quickly set a new standard for the industry in Europe.
Ecover products are primarily manufactured in the world’s first ecological factory located in Malle, Belgium. This facility features a green roof for insulation and water treatment systems. The brand also utilizes a second ecological factory in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France. These locations focus on sustainable production methods and the use of plant-based ingredients.
In 2012, Ecover acquired the American ecological cleaning brand Method, forming the company People Against Dirty. In 2017, the entire group was acquired by SC Johnson, a major American multinational consumer goods company. Today, Ecover operates as a subsidiary under the SC Johnson umbrella, benefiting from its global distribution network while maintaining its original focus on eco-friendly personal and home care products.
