Apache OpenOffice

Apache OpenOffice is a leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases, and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages.

The history of the software dates back to Germany in the mid-1980s as StarWriter, which eventually became StarOffice. After being acquired by Sun Microsystems and later Oracle Corporation, the codebase was donated to the Apache Software Foundation. Today, the development and maintenance are handled by a global community of volunteer developers under the governance of the Apache Software Foundation.

Because it is open-source software, it is not 'manufactured' in a traditional sense in one facility; instead, its source code is developed collaboratively by contributors worldwide. The project remains a free resource for users globally, supported by the non-profit framework of the Apache Foundation.
